Description

Product Characteristics:
Required for pre-mRNA splicing. Can also modulate alternative splicing in vitro. Represses the splicing of MAPT/Tau exon 10. May function as export adapter involved in mRNA nuclear export such as of histone H2A. Binds mRNA which is thought to be transferred to the NXF1-NXT1 heterodimer for export (TAP/NXF1 pathway), enhances NXF1-NXT1 RNA-binding activity. RNA-binding is semi-sequence specific.

Subcellular location: Nucleus

Synonyms: 9G8, AAG3, SFRS7, Serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 7, Splicing factor 9G8, Splicing factor, arginine/serine-rich 7, SRSF7

Target Information: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the serine/arginine (SR)-rich family of pre-mRNA splicing factors, which constitute part of the spliceosome. Each of these factors contains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) for binding RNA and an RS domain for binding other proteins. The RS domain is rich in serine and arginine residues and facilitates interaction between different SR splicing factors. In addition to being critical for mRNA splicing, the SR proteins have also been shown to be involved in mRNA export from the nucleus and in translation. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]
